With Junior School now a distant memory, the exciting journey of High School has begun for me and my fellow 70 grade 8 classmates. Initially, I admit I had a sense of trepidation about returning to school, but after experiencing the first 30 days of this new chapter, I can confidently say that I have grown to love it here.
One of the biggest apprehensions I thought was related to homework and tests. As someone who has severe test anxiety, the thought of facing numerous exams over the next nine months was rather daunting. However, when it came to homework, I discovered a surprising sense of simplicity. Most of my homework assignments stemmed from STEM and Math 8/9 courses. Instead of procrastinating, I made it a habit to tackle them as soon as I got home. Strangely enough, completing these tasks proved to be calming, almost therapeutic, and the sense of accomplishment I felt after finishing them was genuinely encouraging.
Another aspect of High School Life I was initially concerned about was the complex schedule. Memorizing the locations of 100 different rooms and making it to class on time seemed like a challenging task, especially when time slots could change unexpectedly, like during this week’s earthquake drill. However, I quickly developed a strategy that worked well for me. I began printing my schedule for the upcoming week and kept it safe in my bag. This simple tactic eliminated the need for me to rely on my phone or laptop for schedule updates, allowing me to access it quickly and easily whenever I needed to navigate the halls of the school.
Beyond the academic challenges and adjustments, I’ve also embraced the extracurricular scene at Senior School. I’ve joined multiple clubs and found a sense of belonging in the Swim Team. What I’ve come to realize is that High School is not just a place for learning; it’s a thriving and constantly evolving community.
As I embark on this exciting journey through high school, I am filled with anticipation and enthusiasm. The experiences and challenges I face here will undoubtedly shape my future, and I look forward to the countless adventures and discoveries that lie ahead in the coming years at WPGA.
