Some tips and tricks to help you stay calm and happy during the winter season

First term has gone by quickly, and it is hard to believe that winter break is just around the corner.  Even if the winter cold makes you feel like laying in bed and sleeping for an eternity, it is important to stay positive and healthy through these cold times. Getting a good sleep is very important — staying in bed all day or sitting around the house affects sleep schedules and work habits. This can possibly impede on your schoolwork in the following weeks.

Remember to get ready for school the night before so you don’t have to worry in the morning. Get your bag packed, your lunch made, and your uniform laid out. That way, you won’t need to run around at 8:10 looking for your lost sock. When you’re nice and cozy in bed and don’t want to wake up from your magical dream, you can have that peace of mind and hit snooze one more time.

After getting up, it’s important to wake up your body. Don’t have enough time for a quick stretch? Come to yoga after school on Mondays (in Room 013)! It’s a great way to rejuvenate and start your week.

Are you are stressed about your test next block? Here are 3 quick tips to consider before you go in.

  1. Stay hydrated and eat a quick snack before – this will give you a boost of energy to push through.
  2. Take a deep breath and relax because…
  3. YOU GOT THIS – go in with confidence and know that you will do great!

For the unending Fridays where you are physically and mentally drained, 3:30 will come.  Remember to look forward to the weekend, and everything that it brings: sleep, food, and friends. Maybe you can even get some homework done after refreshing from your hectic week.

For those cold Saturdays where you can see a little peek of sun through the clouds, bundle up in your hats, coats, scarves, and mittens, and go for a beach walk. On the way, grab a nice warm drink, your friends, and your dog.  It’s a great way to get some fresh air, catch up with friends, and enjoy the calm and beautiful atmosphere by the beach. If we are blessed with snow this winter, make a snowman, snow angel, or just romp around like you did when you were in kindergarten. The laughter will brighten up your weekend and follow you into your next, now less stressful week.
