How Do You Donate Confidence?
By donating your hair!
How will Donating Your Hair Make a Difference?
For someone who loses their hair from an illness, it affects more than just how they look. It also affects their mental well-being. Studies show that the loss of hair affects one’s self-esteem considerably. People who have lost their hair due to their illness or treatment suffer a high degree of anxiety and depression, lower self-confidence, and poor self-image. This is where we can help. We take our hair for granted: we cut it and it grows back. Not everyone is so fortunate. Donating our hair will give kids the gift of courage, confidence, and strength.
Donating Thirty Inches of Hair
I have donated my hair two times already and by the end of this year, I will be making a third donation. After this third donation, I will have donated more than thirty inches of hair.
I first learned about donating hair to Wigs for Kids BC when my friend, Natalie Chow, donated her hair. I was inspired by this. She gave her hair to those who aren’t as fortunate to have a full head of hair, and I too wanted to help the cause. Even as young adults we can make an impact to help others in need. Although it takes time and a lot of patience to grow out our hair, I believe it is well worth it. I strongly believe in the power of donating hair to give confidence to those in need.
What is Wigs for Kids BC?
Wigs for Kids BC is an organization that connects donors to kids who suffer hair loss from their illness or as a result of the treatment of their illness. This organization provides free wigs to kids who need them.
Call to Action:
Donating your hair or making a monetary donation to Wigs for Kids BC will help improve the well-being of children dealing with illnesses.
It takes about 10-12 bundles of hair to make one wig. If you don’t have long hair, you can donate money which will help greatly in the process of making wigs. Each wig costs about $600-$700 to make and is fully funded by donations. As each wig is quite expensive to make, these monetary donations are equally important.
If you would like to grow your hair to donate, please visit www.wigsforkidsbc.com for detailed information.
You should note that:
- Hair should be a minimum of 10 inches long
- Hair should not be dyed, permed, or chemically treated
